So tonight we had homemade pizza. And yohboh and I agree that this was the perfect crust. As yohboh put it, my best work yet. Crisp to the point of almost crunchy, yielding to a soft and pliable center. The problem is I did this dough by feel. I used a cup and a half of water, seven handfuls of bread flour , two iced tea spoons of yeast, three pinches of salt and two glugs of olive oil. So I probably will never replicate it. But tonight, PERFECT CRUST.
It was disgusting. We are used to eating fresh veggies and cooking them ourselves. So this Rosemary Butter sauce on these veggies did not taste like butter or rosemary. Also, the carrots had the texture of styrofoam.
Pot roast is wonderful for the leftovers. I can make beef stew, or cottage pie. But they are really winter foods. No one wants so much heavy food when it is spring. So I had inspiration kick me in the head and I made: Pot Roast Burrito
Sometimes, I don't feel like cooking. I got a coupon for a Kashi frozen meal so I fed it to the toddler. It was Lemongrass chicken with organic quinoa. By the way, quinoa is pronounced KEEN WAH. I love when fancy people pronounce it wrong. I never correct them though, because fancy people never should be corrected. It was okay but I hate lemongrass.
There was also a fuji apple. Fuji apples are the only ones I eat.
I got a cheap ham from Publix. I read a lot of recipes on how to glaze ham. They suggested ingredients like mango chutney, gingersnaps and orange marmalade.
I went with the basics: Dijon mustard and brown sugar. It was also what I had on hand.
I just slathered on Dijon mustard on the outside and then put a thick layer of brown sugar. I let it sit for a while so that there was a pool of mustardy syrup on the bottom, which I used as a basting liquid when I baked this for about 75 minutes at 300F. It was good.
RECIPE RANT: Don't you hate it when you read a recipe and it has this one exotic ingredient that you don't know? And you spend all this time looking for? Because you have no idea if it is the key to the most delicious thing ever? And then you bother to look for it and then next thing you know you have a bottle of fenugreek that you used once and have shoved to the back of the spice cabinet because the recipe was not that great?
So I love obento lunches. When my child is old enough, she is getting eggs in the shape of Hello Kitty. But for now, I content myself with this: That is a mustard face on the meatloaf for yohboh's lunch.
I am a tiny Asian woman trying to navigate the Deep South. I have a profound love of all things deep fried.
I married a man seven years my junior (WHO IS THE ROCK STAR! JAYUUH!)
I have a well developed sense of humor and a poorly developed sense of spacial relations.
I share too much, which is why I need to blog to edit before I over share with people how often I poop and how I saw my first gray hair at 24 AND IT WAS NOT ON MY HEAD.
I had a child on February 2007 I had another child in October of 2011. My life has not been the same. It has gotten a lot better.
