Four Seasons

I was sent an invitation to brunch at the Four Seasons. Unfortunately for me, I was out of town for the event. I sent my dear friend Netta to attend and write about it for Beef and Chocolate.

Minjenah went out of town for a little fun so she sent me her invitation for the Blogger's Brunch at The Four Seasons. First I must say "Thank you Mama!" It was quite an event. We started with Mimosas on the roof and it only got better from there. Our hosts, Marsha and Abby of M-Squared Public Relations, were friendly and attentive. They made us feel like even though we were at The Four Season, it was a casual afternoon with great friends.

Chef Gerstenecker was wonderful! His kitchen must love him and he would be a welcomed addition at any dinner party even if he's not cooking. He introduced us to the hotel's queen bees, one of which lives in a pink hive (and of course my Honey Bear had to go pick them up!), showed us the beautiful rooftop garden which includes hydroponics, served us a delicious lunch (I now love squash blossoms) and then brought us into the kitchen for fresh-baked donuts and home-made chocolate (yum!).

We had a great time and even won an evening at the Chef's Table! Needless to say I had to watch my back on the way to the parking lot. Thank you Marsha and Abby for the opportunity and Chef Gerstenecker for your hospitality.

I was not paid for this post but did get a wonderful lunch!

DC Rib by Chut

So last night yohboh made this:
DSC_0033

Chut had a brainstorm! Chut painstakingly removed all the bones:

Put the deboned meat between two slices of bread:

And Chut ate it

greedily.

Fat Kid Food

So I found this recipe by Paula Deen that had no butter and used Splenda.

And I was intrigued. But I do not bake with Splenda because
1) I try to eat real food
2) I did not have any baking Splenda.

So what I did was to take this pseudo healthy recipe and make it FAT again.

Fat Kid Peanut Butter Cookies

1 cup of peanut butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
Kosher Salt

Preheat oven to 350.

Combine all ingredients in your favorite mixer and whir it up until it is well combined.

Scoop out the dough with a cookie scoop
Sprinkle with a little kosher salt right before putting in the oven.

Bake for 11 minutes.

This made 28 cookies.

I think if you made it with the Splenda, it would be low carb.

Pizza Night

I find pizza night to be an excellent use of leftovers.

This was a roast pork and onion pizza with garlic, olives and oregano. Pure leftovers and YUMMY.

Mother's Day Dinner

So for Mother's Day dinner we had:

008
Steamed Dungeness Crab It was perfect and steamed for seven minutes. For those of you who have never had this, it is rich and buttery. You do not need to dip it in butter like lobster.

009
An array of fish, including sockeye salmon, tuna steaks, and mackerel.

010
Roasted butternut squash

013
Corn

014
Cranberry beans, which are beautiful, but when cooked lose their pretty pinkness.

Ribs

Yohboh made these ribs. He baked them, wrapped in foil, in the oven for four hours and then grilled them with barbecue sauce.

White Bread

Normally, I buy seven grain heavy seeded loaves of bread. This week, I got some white bread.

Why is white bread so delicious?

Kid Approved recipe

So the kidlet has invented a recipe: Peanut butter and jelly quesadilla.

006

It is a pb & j in a tortilla.

Julia Child better watch out!

Amberjack

Someone gave Yohboh some fish that he had caught in Florida. This is Amberjack.

002

It is grilled with oil, salt, pepper and lime juice.

Cubans

I am all about sandwiches lately.

001

A cuban is a grilled sandwich. You can use a panini press or do as I do and use a George Foreman grill.

Cuban

Cuban bread
Mustard
Pickles
Roast Pork, thinly sliced
Ham, thinly sliced
Cheese (Swiss ideally but I used cheddar)

Slice the bread in half, slather the mustard on and put the remaining ingredients in the bread. Put in a panini press (or a George Foreman grill if you are ghetto like me) and let the bread toast and cheese melt.

YUM!
