When you vegetable garden, people who you do not know ask you about tomatoes.  People will stop in their cars, who you do not know, ask, "Are the tomatoes in yet?" while you are picking squash.

Well: 001

These are some flamme, a black cherry and two green Costoluto Genovese picked because the stem has snapped.
I will share in August!

Good, Fast, and Cheap

There is a design principle where the client has to pick two from the ideas of good, fast, and cheap. I was thinking how this applies to food.

Good + Fast = Expensive
So you want a quick healthy meal, say with fish. Good fish is expensive but needs little else than salt, pepper and olive oil.

Good + Cheap = Slow
Beans and rice is a good cheap meal. But good beans and rice requires planning. An overnight soak and a long cook time.

Fast and Cheap = Inferior
A McDonald's McDouble is a dollar. But it gives me heartburn every time I eat one.

 But still no tomatoes.

Veggies from the garden.  Mainly cucumbers.  Rain made them come in!

Grilled Pizza

Yohboh was reluctant to make grilled pizzas even though we have done it before.

So on a recent Saturday we did.

The reason I was interested in the Kamado Joe for pizza is this: 009
That says almost 700 degrees. You cannot get an oven this hot.

Here is yohboh charring the crust, which is delicious!

And saucing the charred crust:

These are not pizzas loaded with toppings. It is more about the balance of crust, sauce and cheese.

Also the fresh basil on top really made it yummy.

I am really looking forward to putting an heirloom tomato on there!

Vegetable Garden Smugness

All the vegetable on that plate came from the garden, except the tomato and Vidalia onion. Pretty soon, I will be eating seven tomatoes a day. That makes me smug.

May Grocery Challenge

Dear reader,

I forgot about the grocery challenge about halfway through last month. It got busy and the baby decided she did not like two things.  The two things were solid food and sleeping at night.

Apologies all around.

But I will be posting garden shots soon.  And you can admire the heirloom tomatoes, kay?

I have been fighting with the squash borer for years.  This year, we are growing the zucchini and yellow squash knowing they would be gone by mid July.  We have other borer resistant squash that we will eat when the borers eat all the summer squash.

Because I have tried to poison them and it did not work so now I am going to work smarter.
